Who We Are

Women In Peace And Security Network

The Women In Peace and Security Network, Rivers State is a loose network of different Civil Society Organizations, Faith Based Organizations, Community Based Organizations, Women groups, Community Women, Market Women, Male champions and interested individuals and the Rivers state Ministry of women Affairs who have come together to ensure that there is;

  • Sustainable peace and security in Rivers State
  • A reduction of violence against women and girls in Rivers State
  • Gender equality and equity is promoted in the Rivers state at all levels including peace building and conflict resolution processes
  • Commitment to implement the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 in Rivers State

NIGERIA STABILITY AND RECONCILIATION PROGRAM

The network is currently being supported by Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Program, convened by Gender and Development capsDSC00031Action and the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs as a strong ally to bring about the implementation and domestication of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 in Rivers state.

THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 1325 (UNSCR 1325)

UNSCR 1325 which was adopted on the 31st of October 2010 by the United Nations General assembly, is dedicated entirely to build the link that exists between armed conflict, peace building and the gender dimensions that builds on CEDAW, the Beijing Platform for Action, the Windhoek Declaration and the Namibian Plan of Action on mainstreaming a gender perspective in Multidimensional Peace Support Operations.

The Women in Peace and Security Network has dedicated staff and members who have been trained on documentation, counselling and referral of incidences and cases of Violence Against Women and Girls.
Be assured that every information  submitted will be treated with respect and confidentiality. The best interest of the child is our guiding principle as enshrined in the Child Right Act of 2003, the United Nations Convention of the Right of the Child. The Women in Peace and Security Network will ensure this principle is followed with regards to cases of  child abuse especially sexual abuse.

When cases are reported here WPSN will assist with referral, counselling and documentation.

We encourage the Government, communities, families, individuals and the larger society to work towards preventing Violence Against Women and Girls, but when it does occur we also appeal and encourage people to report to challenge and bring a stop to the impunity that encourages Violence Against Women and Girls.
